Double glazed aluminum awning windows are a smart, versatile fenestration solution that allows fresh air into your home even during light rain. Hinged at the top and opening outward from the bottom, the sash acts as a natural canopy — deflecting rainwater away from the interior while maintaining free airflow. SKATE's awning window systems combine this practical functionality with the thermal superiority of double glazing and the structural longevity of precision-extruded aluminum, making them a top choice for bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and any space where ventilation privacy and weather protection are equally important.
A double glazed aluminum awning window incorporates two panes of glass separated by an insulating air or gas-filled cavity, dramatically reducing heat transfer compared to single-glazed alternatives. SKATE offers a comprehensive range of double glazing configurations: standard 5+12A+5 mm units for budget-conscious applications, premium 6+16Ar+6 mm Low-E argon-filled units for high-energy-efficiency projects, and laminated safety glass options for enhanced security. The insulating cavity is sealed with warm-edge spacer bars available in silver aluminum or matt black — the latter virtually eliminating visible cold bridging at the glass perimeter.
Unlike mechanically assembled corner frames, every SKATE double glazed aluminum awning window features seamless corner welding at all four corners of the sash. This approach eliminates the micro-gaps that develop over time in screw-assembled or crimped frames, maintaining perfect air and water tightness throughout the product's service life. The continuous EPDM gasket system — with both a compression gasket at the rebate and a wiper seal at the sash face — provides a triple-point sealing barrier against rain, wind, and dust.
The outward-opening sash is supported by adjustable stainless-steel friction stays that hold the window in any open position from a minimal ventilation crack to fully open at 90°. This allows precise airflow control without the need for a separate restrictor. A key-locking handle secures the sash in the closed position, providing both weather seal compression and burglar resistance.
Double glazed aluminum awning windows integrate seamlessly with fixed lights, casement units, and sliding panels within the same frame assembly or wall opening. A popular configuration places a wide fixed light above with an awning ventilation sash below — maximising glazed area while providing controllable airflow at a convenient height.
The full spectrum of RAL standard powder coat colors, premium PVDF coatings, anodised silver and black finishes, and wood grain transfer printing (Golden Oak, Walnut, Dark Oak and more) are all available. Interior and exterior colors can differ to suit architectural requirements.
Double glazed aluminum awning windows are widely used in: coastal residential properties where salt-laden rain is frequent; bathrooms and utility rooms requiring privacy ventilation; high-rise apartments where opening windows must resist wind-driven rain; commercial buildings requiring low-maintenance, long-life fenestration; and heritage renovations where slim sightlines are specified.
Yes. Awning windows are commonly installed as clerestory or highlight units above fixed lights or doors, operated by a winder or remote actuator if required.
