Product Overview

Aluminum Fixed Glass Windows – Unobstructed Light, Unbeatable Performance

Aluminum fixed glass windows — also known as picture windows — are the architectural industry's preferred solution for maximising glazed area, capturing dramatic views, and flooding interior spaces with natural daylight. Because the sash does not open or move, fixed windows can achieve larger pane sizes, slimmer frame profiles, and higher thermal and acoustic ratings than any comparable operable window. SKATE's aluminum fixed glass windows are engineered from the finest 6063-T5 aluminum alloy profiles, designed to handle oversized glass weights, and rigorously tested to withstand the highest wind and water pressure ratings in our product range.

Engineering for Maximum Glass Area

When designing with aluminum fixed glass windows, the absence of operational hardware and moving sashes allows the aluminum frame to be optimized purely for structural load-bearing and weather exclusion. SKATE's fixed window profiles feature 75 mm – 110 mm wide frames with 1.8 mm wall thickness and an integrated PA66 GF25 thermal break of 24 mm to 35 mm — providing exceptional rigidity across very wide or tall openings without the need for external mullions that would interrupt the view.

Corner joints are seamlessly welded rather than mechanically assembled, creating a monolithic frame structure capable of holding glass units weighing several hundred kilograms without deflection or seal failure. The deep glazing rebate accommodates glass configurations from 24 mm standard double-glazed units all the way to 50 mm triple-glazed laminated assemblies.

Thermal & Acoustic Excellence

Fixed aluminum windows consistently achieve the highest thermal ratings in any window product category. Without operable seals that degrade over time, the fixed frame's gasket remains permanently compressed, maintaining E1500 Pa water tightness and ≤ 0.05 cfm/ft² air leakage throughout the building's life. Combined with triple Low-E krypton-filled glazing, U-values as low as 0.5 W/m²K are achievable — the specification standard for certified passive houses.

For acoustic performance, aluminum fixed glass windows with laminated glass reach Rw ratings of 42–48 dB, providing significant noise reduction in urban, industrial, and high-traffic environments.

Design Flexibility

Aluminum fixed glass windows are available in any shape or configuration. Rectangular fixed lights are the most common application, but SKATE also produces fixed circular portholes, fixed arched tops, fixed triangular gable units, and large-format multi-panel fixed facades. The fixed window can be combined with operable casement, sliding, or awning units within the same frame assembly to provide ventilation alongside the unobstructed view.

Applications in Modern Architecture

Interior designers and architects specify aluminum fixed glass windows for: feature walls and picture windows in living areas; floor-to-ceiling glazing in open-plan spaces; stairwell glazing for borrowed daylight; glass gable ends on contemporary barn or villa-style buildings; commercial reception and retail frontages; museum and gallery display windows; and structural glass facade elements.

Surface Finishes

The complete SKATE finish range is available: RAL powder coat in matt or gloss, PVDF coating for corrosive environments, anodised finishes in silver, champagne, bronze, or black, and wood grain transfer printing. The large frame areas of fixed windows make finish consistency especially important — SKATE's production quality control ensures uniform color across all panels in a multi-window installation.
