An aluminum arch window is one of the most distinctive and architecturally compelling fenestration elements available to designers and builders. The graceful curve of an arched head transforms an ordinary window opening into a focal point that elevates the entire facade, lending an air of craftsmanship, elegance, and permanence that rectangular windows alone cannot achieve. SKATE's aluminum arch windows are produced using our bendable-grade 6063-T5 aluminum profiles, cold-bent with precision tooling to achieve smooth, consistent arcs across any radius — from gentle shallow curves to full semicircles, full-circle oculus windows, pointed Gothic arches, and complex compound shapes.
Bending aluminum profiles for architectural windows is not a simple operation. The material must be carefully selected for its bend grade, the bending process must be controlled to prevent surface distortion or cross-section deformation, and the thermal break strip within the profile must maintain its integrity through the bending process. SKATE's production team uses dedicated CNC-controlled bending machines calibrated to produce consistent curves across multiple profiles within the same batch — ensuring that the curved head, jambs, and sill of an aluminum arch window all align precisely during assembly.
The curved glass required for aluminum arch windows is produced using heat bending or cold bending of standard flat glass sheets, with the specific process chosen based on glass thickness, radius, and performance requirements. All curved glass supplied by SKATE meets the same optical and structural standards as flat glass units in our product range.
SKATE manufactures aluminum arch windows in a comprehensive range of geometric forms:
Aluminum arch windows are most commonly specified as fixed (non-operable) units, particularly where the arch extends to the full height of the window opening. However, SKATE can produce operable arch windows where a rectangular casement or awning sash occupies the lower portion of the frame, with the fixed curved light forming the arched head above. This configuration provides both the decorative impact of the arch and the practical ventilation of an operable window.
The flexible PA66 GF25 thermal break strip used in SKATE's aluminum arch window profiles accommodates the bending process without fracturing, maintaining the thermal isolation between the interior and exterior aluminum sections throughout the curved length. Combined with shaped DGU or TGU units, the arch window delivers thermal performance consistent with SKATE's rectangular window range.
Curved aluminum profiles accept the same powder coat, anodised, PVDF, and wood grain finishes as straight profiles. All curved sections within an aluminum arch window are finished using automated spray processes before bending to ensure complete and even coverage, followed by post-bend touch-up where required.
Aluminum arch windows are prominent features in: Georgian and Victorian residential architecture; Mediterranean-style villas and homes; neo-classical commercial buildings and banks; places of worship and heritage institutions; high-end luxury residences seeking distinctive window focal points; and contemporary architectural projects using curved forms as design elements.
